Linda Schirmer is a dance artist and dance / theatre facilitator based in Clifden, West of Ireland.
She enjoys multi-disciplinary work (live performance, film & photography) and collaborative work. She teaches dance & theatre in various educational settings in Ireland and Germany: schools, community centres and universities.
For several years, she worked at the Dance Archive, Leipzig, focusing on Rudolf von Laban’s legacy. Additionally, she is a member of the Laban Guild, UK and did a CPD Course in Laban’s Choreutic Studies as well as a Laban Dance Leader Course.
As a dance & theatre facilitator She has worked at different schools, preschools and kindergartens in Germany (2016-2019), but also in Ireland (i.e. Tully, Letterfrack, Carna). Additionally, she also worked at educational centres such as Community College Hildburghausen, Mehrgenerationenhaus (Multigenerational House) Heldburg and University of Leipzig.
She has developed Laban based creative programmes for kindergarten & primary school teachers. She also taught students at the Department of Theatre Studies, Leipzig & Tanzarchiv Leipzig and organised exhibtions & festivities.
She studied at the University of Leipzig and Cork and holds an M.A. in Theatre Studies. She was invited to present her dance research at Laban International Conference, London & at the Academy of Arts, Berlin. She was educated at the Leipzig State Ballet School and has a strong Dance Theatre background.
Her dance work, often in collaboration with other artists has been shown at Nun's Island Theatre, Interface Inagh, Dublin Dance Festival (Representing Ireland), Clifden Arts Festival, Druid Theatre & Iranian Film Festival.
Since 2017, Linda has been an active member of Interface Inagh. In 2021, 2022, 2023 Linda took part at the Woodland Symposium and presented her work at the Earth Rising Festival 2023 at the Irish Museum of Modern Art and Galway Art Centre 2023/2024.
In 2023 she received the Dance Commission Award through Interface Inagh. She created a dance film "Carrying Wood" and a live performance piece that premiered at Nun's Island Theatre in December 2023. This work has been funded by the Arts Council Ireland with the support of Galway Dance.
In 2024 she is the recipient of the Dance Residency Scheme from the Arts Council Ireland in collaboration with Interface Inagh, Galway County Council and Galway Dance.
Her work has been funded and supported by The Arts Council Ireland, Interface Inagh, Galway Dance, Dance Ireland, Galway Arts Centre, Culture Night, Galway County Council, Interkulturelle Bildung Thüringen e.V., Mehrgenerationenhaus, Volkshochschule Hildburghausen, Diakonie among others.
